WealthTV 3D joining handful of 3D networks

The network we love to hate has made it a long way in the four years since we promised to never cover it again because of its ridiculous claims . Not only is it still on the air, but Herring Broadcasting has announced it will be adding a linear 3D channel to the existing handful of 3D channels that includes ESPN 3D , n3D and 3net . No word on any broadcaster carriage agreements, yet, but WealthTV 3D has spent two years producing original 3D content in anticipation of the launch and viewers can currently tune in online via Roku boxes.

After Vizio gave the world a preview of its PC and tablet plans it also announced plans for new HDTVs and a couple of set-top boxes, so we couldn’t resist traveling back over to its Wynn-based lounge to view the beasts in their natural habitat. We won’t make too much of it, but if you read last year’s hands-on preview , unfortunately much of this is similar, as we mentioned when they were announced — much of this tech was originally planned to ship in 2011

It’s not a big surprise after launching in Germany and Japan, but Toshiba PR has confirmed to us and CNET that the company’s 3,840×2,160 resolution autostereoscopic 3DTV will make its US debut in the first quarter of 2012, matching the “end of fiscal year” prediction we’d heard previously .

China to get its first 3D TV channel within weeks

Half a billion TV set owners could soon have the perfect excuse for an upgrade: a new 3D channel that has already started broadcasting on a trial basis and is due to launch officially over the Chinese New Year. Operated by China Central TV and a handful of local stations, it’ll transmit 4.5 hours of free-to-air fuzzy red and green content each day, which can be picked up by anyone with a hi-def set-top box and a 3D TV. They won’t have to watch it on a 71-inch 21:9 panel , but it’ll certainly help

LG unveils 84-inch ‘ultra definition’ 4K TV it’s bringing to CES 2012

LG let us know at CES 2011 that it had 4K LCD televisions in the pipeline, but unfortunately they didn’t make it out this year. Expect for that to change in 2012, as the company just announced it’s bringing an 84-inch “ultra definition” (3840×2160) TV to Las Vegas to go along with its 55-inch OLED .

Westinghouse announces its first 3D HDTV, coming to a discount department store near you

Just 18 short months after 3D made its big HDTV debut at CES 2010, Westinghouse is finally ready to make its own entry into the third dimension, with the 47-inch W47S2TCD. Like most Westinghouse sets, there’s really nothing special to make this rather generic TV pop (until you toss on one of the four included pairs of 3D glasses), but you will be getting a passive 1080p 3D display, 3:2 pulldown, three-way selectable color temperature, and a backlight enhancement tool called DayBright. The company is also unveiling five other TVs, including its first connected TV — the 46-inch WC-4625T — which includes access to Netflix and Vudu .

Sony’s 24-inch ‘PlayStation’ 3D display first hands-on!

We knew you were dying to know what Sony was planning with those stereoscopic multiplayer display patents last year, so we took a look at Sony’s new PlayStation-branded 3D display , just for you. True to its schtick, the stereoscopic display simultaneously displays two separate full screen images, hidden behind the smoke and mirrors of active shutter 3D technology — while suffering only a minimal amount of ghosting. The dual-full-screen trick will only work with PlayStation 3 games specifically programmed to make use of the feature, and although none have been announced yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if pack-in title Resistance 3 is compatible.

Eyes on with the VT30, Panasonic’s flagship 3D plasma

The latest and greatest (and largest) 3D plasmas from Panasonic are finally shipping, including the flagship, THX-certified Viera VT30 sets with their single sheet of glass panels and Infinite Black Pro2 filters. We first caught a glimpse of these bad boys back at CES and we’ve been impatiently waiting for a chance to blast our retinas with their PDP goodness in all three dimensions. The company was nice enough to invite us over recently to have a little TV powwow that featured an uncomfortable amount of Avatar on Bluray
