Epic 4G user agent string suggests Gingerbread is on the way?

Samsung’s Epic 4G just recently got Froyo , but it might not be too long before the handset bites into another toothsome treat — a user agent profile at Sprint’s own website lists a newer software based on Android 2.3 . We can’t say definitively whether this ED12 build will actually make it to retail phones anytime soon, mind you — our own Epic 4G is presently on EC05 right now — but it seems very likely that Europeans won’t be the only Galaxy S owners to snarf down gumdrop buttons this year.

iPod nano code hints at possible video playback

It may not be anything more than a bit of excess or leftover code, but it looks like there’s at least a hint of some possible video playback capabilities lying deep in the code for the new iPod nano (the internal settings property list, to be specific). As discovered by Erica Sadun over at TUAW , that includes options for things like TV subtitles, captions and alternate audio, and even a fit-to-screen option — for the perfectly square aspect ratio of the nano’s screen, perhaps?

Sprint hooking up with Walmart for WiMAX buildout?

Sprint’s got a nice head start in the 4G race over Verizon and AT&T — a message it’s heavily broadcasting these days — but with the onslaught of LTE networks and equipment around the world now just months away, momentum is unquestionably going to shift, giving the carrier every reason to act quickly to build out now and score as many subscribers as it possibly can. That seems to be the gist of a rumor coming out of AndroidGuys today that says Sprint is working on a deal with Walmart to install WiMAX cells on all (yes, all) of its locations, a move that would give it a significant boost in national coverage while presumably lowering infrastructure costs significantly

Cobra XRS 9970G radar detector has a touchscreen, will not make radar detectors useful

If you’re thinking switching between city and highway mode on a regular radar detector was pretty easy, well, you’re wrong.

WakeMate Bluetooth Wristband Makes Waking A Bit Easier

By Andrew Liszewski Instead of jarring you out of bed at a random time in your sleep cycle which can make you feel groggy, the WakeMate wristband uses actigraphy to determine the ’semi-awake’ arousal points in your REM cycle when waking can actually make you feel rested and refreshed. The wristband itself features a motion sensor to measure your body’s activity throughout the night, which correlates to your sleep cycles, and the information is sent to an application on your cellphone via Bluetooth. Before you go to bed, instead of specifying an exact time to wake, you give the WakeMate software a 20-minute window in which you’d like to get up, and it will sound an alarm at the optimal time within that window.
