Orange offers free Wikipedia access to mobile users in Africa and the Middle East

There are more than 70 million Orange customers across Africa and the Middle East, but only about 10 million are able to access the web from their handsets. That gap may be narrowing, though, now that the provider has decided to offer free mobile access to Wikipedia for users throughout the region. Under the program, users with an Orange SIM card and a web-enabled phone will be able to access the site as many times as they want, without incurring any data charges

Lenovo taps former Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci to lead new Europe, Middle East and Africa division

It looks like former Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci’s recent gig as a consultant for Lenovo has worked out pretty well — Lenovo confirmed today that it’s bringing on Lanci in a permanent position as the head of the its new Europe, Middle East and Africa (or EMEA) division. As The Wall Street Journal reports, that move is part of a broader reorganization within the company (going into effect April 2nd), which will see it have four units focused on different regions instead of the current three. Current Lenovo execs will head up the three other divisions

Samsung outs revamped Galaxy Ace Plus: bigger screen, worse resolution

Samsung clearly didn’t spend the holiday season kicking back listening to Dick Clark , or else it wouldn’t be able to show off the revamped edition of the Galaxy Ace : the Galaxy Ace Plus. Unimaginative names aside, the budget blower gets a speed bump, to last year’s minimum spec — 1GHz processor, five megapixel camera, 3GB internal memory, HSDPA and a 3.65-inch HVGA (320 x 480) screen (really, Samsung?)

The Future of Computing

If we had a supercomputer that could predict the future, we would tell what’s next for technology. Then again, if the past is any guide, the predictions would certainly be wrong.
