FilmOn finds another way to put live TV on your mobile, but it’s still awkward

FilmOn’s TV streaming ambitions haven’t exactly gone according to plan since it got into legal hot water with a bunch of not-so-minor broadcasters last year — including CBS, FOX and plenty others. Until that dries off, the company wants to bring TV to your phone, tablet or laptop using an additional route: a portable ATSC tuner

BBC iPlayer app gets a new look on the PS3 now, other devices later

While we keep waiting for the BBC to release a version of its iPlayer on this side of the Atlantic , it’s already upgrading UK PlayStation 3s with a brand new interface. Designed to be navigated by any standard remote, the main focuses are personalization and enhanced navigation to avoid scrolling through long lists, as well as bringing over synced iPlayer Favourites from the PC

Adobe CEO has no beef with Apple, no answer for poor Flash performance on Android (video)

The Adobe-Apple Flash war used to be one of the juiciest catfights around, but, much like two aging boxers, both sides now appear willing to act like adults put it all behind them . Speaking at yesterday’s D9 conference in Palos Verdes, California, Adobe head Shantanu Narayen confirmed that he and Steve Jobs have reached an unofficial armistice, bringing an end to their prolonged war of words. According to the CEO, Apple’s Flash issues stemmed from the company’s “business model,” rather than any legitimate concerns over quality

Adobe outs experimental Flash-to-HTML5 conversion tool, calls it Wallaby

Ah, if only we could flip a big happy switch and convert all the web’s Flash content into (functional) HTML5 code. It’s a dream shared by many and, funnily enough, the company pushing to make it a reality is none other than Adobe itself, the owner and proprietor of Flash. Its Labs research team has just released an experimental new dev tool, dubbed Wallaby, that’s targeted at taking Flash-encoded artwork and animations and turning them into a more compatible mix of HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Apple MacBook Air survey gets chatty about 3G

Apple isn’t much of one for customer surveys, but this recent missive to select MacBook Air owners has all sorts of goodies inside it. Most notable is the large amount of questions on 3G data connectivity, a feature that Apple has so far avoided adding to any of its laptops, even though it sells a tablet computer with the functionality.

Adobe says Flash 10.2 coming to handsets soon, offers roundabout confirmation of Honeycomb for smartphones

Google’s been notoriously tight-lipped about whether Honeycomb will come to cellular handsets, but we may have gotten our answer at a recent Adobe event, as the company’s Anup Murarka tells us Flash 10.2 will be coming to both tablets and smartphones “in the next few weeks.” Come again?

Apple to launch its new Mac App Store next month

The Mac App Store – featuring apps in categories such as education, games and lifestyle – will open on 6 January, says Apple Apple’s experiment in bringing the iPhone experience of an “app store” to its computers will begin on Thursday 6 January, the company said today – neatly timing it to distract from any goings-on or keynotes that might be happening at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer is expected to give a keynote address . Apple says that “the Mac App Store makes discovering, installing and updating Mac apps easier than ever” – and will do it across 90 (out of the world’s 190-odd) countries from launch, featuring paid and free apps in categories such as education, games, graphics & design, lifestyle, productivity and utilities. Apple announced the scheme at its ” Back to the Mac event ” in October, but didn’t give a date for when it would offer the store
