Jeff Bezos Funds Bigot Search Engine That Powers Android Siri RIval

I’m sure Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos doesn’t know about this, but he’s funding a seemingly ultra-Christian search engine that is anti-abortion, anti-evolution, racist and even thinks that rape may be justifiable. It’s called ChaCha, and it powers Android’s most popular Siri competitor, Iris

Reuters: Amazon Prime Instant Video close to Viacom deal, standalone service launch

So far, 2012 has been quiet for Amazon’s all-you-can-eat video streaming service, but that could change soon as Reuters cites anonymous sources claiming the retailer will lock up a deal with Viacom (Paramount Studios, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike, etc.) soon. That would reportedly be one of the final steps to launching Prime Instant Video as a standalone service, just as Netflix had suggested in its last earnings report . With details still scarce it’s hard to say exactly what shape these competitors to the streaming crown will take, but between Amazon, Hulu, Redbox / Verizon , Google, whatever Apple may be up to as well as a fight from Sky and Lovefilm in the UK, it should be a very interesting year

Fujifilm X-Pro1 shows up on Amazon, price in tow

Oh Amazon, why must you tease us so? Not content on leaking the Fujifilm X-Pro1′s lenses before the mirrorless ILC was even announced at CES , the retailer just revealed the camera’s price. It appears you’ll have to plunk down a hefty $1700 to get your dirty little mitts on this high-end rangefinder-ish 16 megapixel APS-C shooter — and that’s just for the body

Barnes & Noble to pull Amazon Publishing titles from shelves over exclusivity concerns

Barnes & Noble bans aren’t just for superheroes anymore . The bookseller let it be known this week that it will be pulling Amazon Publishing titles from the shelves of its 700-odd retail locations, in protest of exclusivity deals struck by the mega-online retailer. As one B&N exec told The New York Times , “Our decision is based on Amazon’s continued push for exclusivity with publishers, agents and the authors they represent,” adding, “Their actions have undermined the industry as a whole and have prevented millions of customers from having access to content.” Barnes & Noble will apparently continue to sell some Amazon titles through its own site, but good luck using its WiFi .

Amazon announces Q4 2011 results: sales jump to $17.43 billion, but profits drop 58 percent

Amazon’s just announced its earnings for the fourth quarter of the year, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. While net sales were up 35 percent year-over-year to $17.43 billion, net income dropped a hefty 58 percent to $177 million, or 38 cents a share — that’s off analysts’ expectations, who were looking for sales in the neighborhood of $18.3 billion and earnings of 17 cents a share
