More than six months after Ron Johnson’s departure , Apple has finally found a new retail chief to replace him, in one John Browett. The Cambridge- and Wharton-educated Browett will be coming to Cupertino in April after serving nearly five years as CEO of Dixons — the Taj Mahal of British retail. Before that, he held a smattering of obscurely defined “executive positions” at Tesco plc and advised retail clients at Boston Consulting Group

For many New Yorkers, Grand Central Station Terminal is where you go to escape the island — not to leisurely browse aisles of iPhone accessories, or pop in for a Genius Bar appointment. But apparently Apple has a slightly different vision for the city’s transportation hub, opening its fifth NYC store along the main hall’s 23,000 square foot east balcony. We dropped by for the grand opening this morning, which came complete with the standard Apple Store t-shirt giveaway and what seemed like hundreds of red shirt-clad retail employees.

In fact, after American expat BirdAbroad made her local stores famous last week, local officials have since been combing through the city’s 300-plus gadget shops on behalf of Apple China, and managed to dig up two more “Apple” stores.
