Jon Rubinstein leaves Hewlett-Packard

Former Palm chief Jon Rubinstein has left Hewlett-Packard , having completed the 24-month commitment period he agreed to when HP acquired Palm . An HP spokesperson has confirmed the story, first reported by AllThingsD , in a brief statement: “Jon has fulfilled his commitment and we wish him well.” Rubinstein rose to fame as a hardware guru at NeXT, ultimately joining Apple after the company acquired NeXT in 1996.

HP appoints Bill Veghte as chief strategy officer, will lead ‘cloud and webOS open source initiatives’

Bill Veghte was already having his checks cut by HP (after cutting ties with Microsoft ), but now he’ll be filling a slightly different corner office. The company today announced that he has been appointed chief strategy officer, but somehow, he’ll also have enough time to hold onto his current role as executive vice president of HP Software.

Nokia Lumia 900 official: 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED, 4G LTE, exclusive to AT&T

We’re here at Nokia’s CES 2012 press announcement and we’ve got the confirmation that everyone’s been waiting for: the Nokia Lumia 900 is real . It looks like the rumors were true: the AT&T exclusive phone is packing a 4.3-inch clear-black AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 512MB RAM and Mango. Camera-wise, there’s an 8-megapixel camera ’round back with a 28mm f/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens (likely the same as on the Lumia 800 ) and a front-facing f/2.4 wide-angle lens that’s great for wide angle shots.

Dish Network announces Hopper DVR system, Joey set-top box, launches broadband, Test Drive services

Dish Network just made a slew of big announcements at its CES press conference today, introducing the Hopper HD DVR system, the corollary Joey set-top box, and a new, TV Everywhere-based Test Drive service. Let’s start with the hardware: the Hopper unit is comprised of three satellite TV tuners, a 2TB hard drive that promises up to 2,000 hours of entertainment, including up to 250 hours of HD viewing and 1,000 hours of SD recording. The device can record up to six TV shows at once, and allows users to watch as many as four recorded shows in four different rooms.

Fujifilm confirms X-Pro1 at CES: 16MP APS-C sensor, interchangeable lenses, price TBA

Amazon all but confirmed the camera’s existence when it leaked three lens pages yesterday, but Fujifilm just officially unveiled the X-Pro1 at CES , in all its rangefinder-esque goodness. The camera’s centerpiece is an APS-C sensor, but unlike the X100 and X10, Fujifilm’s new flagship includes an interchangeable lens mount. The camera can capture 16 megapixel stills, and will be compatible with three lenses at launch: an XF 18mm (27mm equivalent) f/2.0, 35mm (53mm equivalent) f/1.4 lens and a larger 60mm (91mm equivalent) f/2.4 macro lens, though the company says it plans to introduce nine more lenses within the next three years.
