Xcom Global’s international MiFi rentals getting cheaper, Eurotrips making a comeback

No sense in beating around the proverbial bush — we’re huge fans of Xcom Global’s business model, and frankly, we’re saddened that every single nation in the world isn’t yet included in its list of supported countries. For those hearing the name for the first time, you’ll be doing yourself a solid by catching up with our review of the service, which enables jetsetters to rent MiFis or USB WWAN devices for international destinations before taking off

PixelQi demos its 7-inch displays, working on a 9.7-inch version

We had a hunch that PixelQi was going to bring its 7-inch displays to Vegas, and lo and behold we caught a glimpse of the unique transreflective displays today. (For those that have been living under a rock and aren’t familiar with PixelQi — the high contrast 3Qi screens allow for the backlight to be turned off; not only does it save energy, but it’s easy to read in natural light.) The smaller, 1024 x 600-resolution displays are, well, smaller than the previous 10.1-inch version.

Switched on: FaceTime prepares for prime time

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On , a column about consumer technology. Perhaps the most-predicted announcement from Apple’s September 1 press event is the addition of two cameras to the iPod touch. Long before Apple revealed its FaceTime videoconferencing software with the iPhone 4, various disassemblers notice that there seemed to be a place left open for a camera in the last iPod touch, despite Apple’s claim that the product didn’t “need more stuff.” Nonetheless, few could deny the usefulness of such an add-on, particularly when paired with the iPod touch’s relatively generous internal memory capacity
