BlackBerry finally sees competition within US government

Despite our commander-in-chief’s seemingly undying allegiance to BlackBerry, it looks like the federal government could be ready to make a break from RIM. According to a Washington Post article published yesterday, a number of agencies within the federal government are questioning their attachment to the standard-issue BlackBerry devices, and allowing government employees to bring in their own preferred methods of communication — among other things, Congress now allows the use of iPads and iPhones on the House floor and use of BlackBerrys at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has dropped from 1,000 to 700 in the past year. What’s more, the General Services Administration is currently shifting 17,000 employees to Gmail, a move it says could reduce expenses by 50 percent in the next five years

Obama says federal fleet to run on alternative fuels starting in 2015

Chances are the Secret Service won’t be ditching its signature black SUVs for these things anytime soon, but if all goes according to President Obama’s new energy plan , even the Commander in Chief’s armed guards will be rolling more eco-friendly in the next three years.

Mass Effect 2 (PS3)

It took some time, but PlayStation 3 owners are finally welcome to join Commander Shepard and the crew of the Normandy in BioWare’s intergalactic action-RPG epic. It’s the same great game 360 owners are already familiar with, albeit outfitted with the previously released DLC and the slick new Mass Effect: Genesis backstory comic

CyberPower gets diminutive with LAN Party EVO SFF desktop family

Look out, Shuttle — CyberPower’s getting all up in your territory with its new LAN Party EVO series. Introduced today, this foursome of minuscule monsters relies on mITX and mATX motherboards and plenty of high-end internals to deliver solid gaming performance in a desktop that’s at least somewhat portable. The Party EVO Mini is wrapped in a Silverstone SG-07B enclosure, while the Xtreme, Commander, and Ultra tout In-Win’s Dragonslayer.
