ARM reveals Eagle core as Cortex-A15, capable of quad-core computing at up to 2.5GHz

Way to take the wind out of our sails, ARM — no sooner does your dual-core Cortex-A9 finally ship , do you reveal an even more powerful smartphone, smartbook and server-slaying beast. The Cortex-A15 MPCore picks up where the A9 left off, but with reportedly five times the power of existing SOCs, raising the bar for ARM-based single- and dual-core cell phone processors up to 1.5GHz…

New ARM architecture (likely Eagle) better suited for OS virtualization

Looks like that fake Pre with the iOS / BlackBerry OS split personality is a little ahead of its time, but ARM — supplier of the architecture that underpins most of the world’s smartphones — likes the idea. In a recent talk at Stanford, ARM program manager David Brash talked up some of the highlights of new “extensions” to the existing ARMv7-A platform, and though he apparently never mentioned Eagle by name, it seems safe to assume that he was referring to the capabilities that Eagle would bring to the table when it launches in the next couple years. Notably, the extensions will break through ARM’s current 4GB RAM limit by mapping 4GB windows of memory to each virtualized operating system, which dovetails nicely — suspiciously nicely, in fact — with VMware’s recent talk of wanting virtualized phones capable of seamlessly switching between multiple platforms without any hacky bootloader solutions

Penguin United’s Eagle Eye brings WASD to your PS3 shooters, disrespect to your enemies (video)

With the PS3′s plethora of USB ports scattered across the front, you’d think it’d be a no-brainer that all shooters on the console would support keyboard and mouse controls to make the FPS purists happy. Sadly that’s not nearly the case, so it’s up to companies like Penguin United (creators of a fine array of silly Wii peripherals) to fill the void. The Eagle Eye is its attempt, a surprisingly sizable box with an unfortunately short 2-foot USB cable and inputs for mouse and keyboard

How to Order your Eagle PCB Design

Colin Karpfinger who is also the creator of the cool Autonomous Paintball Sentry Gun has made a great article about Ordering your Eagle PCB Designs . Learning Eagle is quirky enough but after your design is done you still need to learn about circuit board manufacturing before you can get them produced.

The Muppets Celebrate Memorial Day with “American Woman” Cover [VIDEO]

It ain’t a holiday without a little musical accompaniment courtesy of the Muppets — or at least that seems to be the trend of late. The Muppets Studio has released a new video on its YouTube channel in honor of Memorial Day featuring Sam the Eagle’s take on The Guess Who’s “American Woman.” The furry puppets have been dominating the ‘net lately — they dropped in at Lost headquarters not too long ago, and even picked up a Webby for their rendition of “ Bohemian Rhapsody .” It’s good to see that Sam & Co. aren’t taking the three-day weekend as an excuse to slack off, unlike you, Sir or Ma’am, currently surfing the web

ARM planning three new Cortex CPUs, Eagle headed for smartphones

As if the Cortex-A9 isn’t stirring up enough emotion all by itself , ARM has revealed it is working hard on producing another, presumably even faster, iteration of its Cortex-A series of chips. Code named Eagle, the new processor is slated for a production run of 3 billion units annually, but alas there’s no more information on it beyond its intended market of smartphones, mobile computing , and digital TV products. There’s also word of a pair of embedded chips, dubbed Heron and Merlin, which will find roles to perform in automotive and audio processing environments
