Tesla is racing to the finish line for Model S prep, talks up ‘Supercharging’

Despite losing two of its big kahunas , electric car maker Tesla is stepping on the throttle of its new Model S project like a battery-powered bat out of hell. While recently doing some ‘splainin with Autoblog , Tesla Vice President of Communications Ricardo Reyes confirmed that initial deliveries of the four-door sedan are still on track for mid-2012 in the United States, followed by a European launch six months later

However, we know how much you love Doc Brown’s ride, and when we saw it on the show floor we had to snap some pics for your viewing pleasure. We got our first whiff of the SIM-LEI , an EV from across the Pacific, in March. Back then it was just an oddly shaped prototype with an impressive range of 207 miles and a top speed of 93mph. With the SIM-Drive’s concept marching closer to a planned production date sometime in 2013 the company is finally giving a more detailed look at the car at the 2011 Electrical Vehicle Industrial Exhibition.

Bummer for fans of teardrop shaped three-wheelers, as your favorite chariot, Aptera’s 2e , will never see the light of day. Despite getting the ball rolling on a $150 million loan from the DOE, subsequent funding and time just weren’t on the startup’s side. An unfortunate prognosis, as CEO Paul Wilbur revealed the company had been working on a $30,000 mid-sized sedan that would have touted 190 miles of electrical range
