Sharp to cut LCD production in Osaka plant by half

Remember that brand-spanking new production facility in Sakai City , Osaka that Sharp just christened a few years back? Japan’s Nikkei business daily reports that Sharp will be cutting output at that factory by a whopping half for a month or maybe longer — its second major reduction in a year. The Sakai factory typically makes 1.3 million 40-inch panels per month but was running at 80-90 percent capacity after being idled in April

Lytro open to partnering with smartphone makers, executive suggests

Now that its famed light field camera has finally become official , Lytro is looking to the future, with an eye, apparently, toward the cellphone market. During a recent interview with PC World , Lytro executive chairman Charles Chi described his company’s new sensor in greater detail, and talked at length about its purportedly superior battery life. He also divulged a few hints about Lytro’s roadmap.

Nissan Leaf branches out to an additional six states, plus one Island

The Nissan Leaf is inching closer to national ubiquity, with the addition of seven new markets across the continental US. In a statement issued yesterday, the manufacturer announced that its EV will soon be available within Delaware, Indiana, Louisiana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, with the first deliveries scheduled to roll out in Spring 2012. This expansion, which comes nearly one year after the Leaf’s grand debut , means that the plug-in is now available in a full 30 US states (including Washington, DC), though Nissan hopes to bring it to the full 50 by March of next year
