Hands-on with Gracenote’s automotive-grade MoodGrid

Garmin has a new head unit (internally dubbed Everest) that’s due to arrive in a few OEM vehicles later this year, and aside from an attractive interface, a revamped navigation system and one-shot voice commands, a new audio app from Gracenote could be included in the package. The app is called MoodGrid and it’s a scaled down version of the Android-based version that Gracenote has been testing for the last year. Like the tablet app, the automotive-spec MoodGrid has a graph with Positive, Calm, Energetic and Dark on each axis

Boot up: RIM shows off new BlackBerry OS, Intel unveils ultrabook strategy at CES 2012, and more

Plus MG Siegler on why he hates (some of) Android, and a hands-on with Samsung’s inTouch TV A quick burst of 8 links for you to chew over, as picked by the Technology team Why I Hate Android > > MG Siegler MG Siegler (whose post repays a careful reading; look past the headline, which is misleading): “Apple, for all the shit they get for being “closed” and “evil”, has actually done far more to wrestle control back from the carriers and put it into the hands of consumers. Google set off to help in this goal, then stabbed us all in the back and went the complete other way, to the side of the carriers. And because they smiled the entire time they were doing it and fed us “open” bullshit, we thanked them for it

Lodsys adds Rovio, Atari, EA and others to patent suit, makes birds even angrier

If you thought Lodsys was done making a spectacle of itself and dragging app developers to court, you were sorely mistaken. The king of the patent trolls has amended its original complaint against mobile devs, removing one company, but adding five new ones — all of them big names

ModulR Case for the iPad 2

ModulR has announced that casings for the iPad 2 are now available. The casing system is designed to protect the iPad and allow for added functionality by allowing users to add various accessories to the casing system. This allows users to use the iPad in a variety of other ways that would be impossible with a standard protective casing

Transparent Bathtub is Clearly Awesome

Bathtubs are not really my thing but for some reason I really want this transparent bathtub from Korra . Made of a high density transparent blue acrylic on a fiberglass base, this massaging tub has graceful curving lines and underwater lighting to set the mood. Maybe it wouldn’t look quite so good in my windowless ghetto basement bathroom as it does on a high floor in front of a large glass window overlooking the ocean.
