Pico Dolly replaces homemade roller skate tripods for smaller camera productions (video)

Instead of precariously perching your DSLR on a skateboard in the name of film, perhaps it’s time to invest in something a little more stable — like the extremely affordable Pico Dolly. Machined from aluminum, this 3.5-inch, three pound dolly has wheels akin to those found on Rollerblades , plus three screw mounts to attach the optional 11-inch friction arm.

The Mystery of the Phantom Pyramid That Never Existed

There’s nothing triangular about the Mount Teide volcano. From its base, it’s the third largest volcano in the world but is pretty flat on top. So why does its shadow look like a perfect ghost pyramid rising over the horizon

Twitter Scales Mount Everest. Is Nowhere Sacred? [Mount Everest]

Climbing Mount Everest is one of the most dangerous, physically challenging things a human being can do. You’d think that if there were one place on Earth that could convince people to leave their phones at home, that would be it.

Ricoh GXR will swap out lenses with Leica M mount, makes Micro Four Thirds mildly jealous

Ricoh’s sensor-swapping GXR camera is getting more interchangeable than ever before — this fall, the company plans to introduce a APS-C sized 12.3 megapixel CMOS module that lets you pop out lenses too. Rather than building a new set of macros and zooms, though, the new unit will serve as an adapter for the vast hoard of Leica M glass you’ve been stockpiling for a rainy day, and sport a new focal plane shutter too.
