We know, we know — it could never happen to you, right? We imagine that’s exactly what one gentleman thought before his two-week-old Samsung Galaxy S II I727 (Skyrocket) — unlocked, we believe, given the Rogers SIM card — decided to melt in his pocket.

TouchPad homebrew patches surface in Preware, devs keep on giving

Earlier this month, we told you about the free TouchPads being custom wrapped for the devs at WebOS Internals. It seems that those fortuitous webOS junkies have upheld their end of the deal, as the first delectable homebrew patches have begun to show up in Preware. As we’ve seen, this tech is offered at no cost — and HP continues to reach out to devs of unofficial apps, making the situation a win for everyone.

iMac frees you from the tyranny (and convenience) of servicing your own hard drives (update: not exactly a new problem)

Letting Apple control most facets of your computing experience is just a fact of life for the Mac faithful, but if you want to swap out the hard drive for a bigger or faster one with the most recent iMac refresh , well, you have somewhat limited options. Rather than a standard 4-wire SATA configuration Apple uses a 7-wire configuration that keeps you from hooking up just any old hard drive, lest a temperature sensor go batty and your system refuse to cooperate. There are ways around it, but your warranty may not apply afterward…

Sony provides PSN update, confirms a ‘compromise of personal information’ (updated)

It’s looking like things are just as bad as we feared and that ” external intrusion ” got a little deeper than we might have liked. In an update on its PlayStation.Blog , Sony just confirmed that the ongoing PSN outage was caused by “malicious actions,” which we already knew, but continues by indicating that there has also been “a compromise of personal information.” Exactly what that means Sony isn’t saying, and it stops short of saying that credit card data for PSN and Qriocity users has been exposed, but the company does say “your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.” Yes, it may have been obtained — even Sony isn’t sure. There’s no further ETA for when PSN may be back up online or when you might be able to finally sample Portal 2 ‘s delicious online co-op mode, but at least you can still watch Netflix .
