Optogenetics might be a relatively unknown area of neuroscience , but it’s one that, thanks to some new research, could soon find itself (and its rodental subjects) in the spotlight. For the uninitiated, it’s the practice of manipulating animal cells using light (with a little help from gene therapy). Until now, optogenetic equipment has been large and unwieldy, making testing on subjects (read: rats) painstaking

Don’t call it a comeback, it’s a Xyboard — Motorola’s rebranded (for the US, anyway) Xoom 2 . A 10.1-inch attempt at sidestepping the original Xoom’s notoriety. With baked-in LTE of the Verizon variety, a slimmer waistline and a distinctive design, this Android 3.2 tablet could very well inject a dose of excitement back into the company’s flagging category appeal

Guitar Hero and Rock Band may have catapulted games developer Harmonix into the spotlight, but the games studio looks set to branch out more into motion-based, Kinect-friendly titles. Talking to our sister site, Joystiq , Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said that his company’s success with Dance Central had left them with an “affinity for motion gaming.” With Guitar Hero currently in rehab , this might be a little clue to Harmonix’s future releases. Samsung took IFA by storm yesterday with its now-legendary ” S Pen ” (that Galaxy Note comes bundled ), so it’s only fair that LG gets its chance in the spotlight with a pen of its own.
