Documentation Team Leadership Change

Hi everybody – Hope you all had a great holiday, and are easing into 2012 nicely! I’ll cut right to the chase with this announcement: effective pretty well immediately (as this has been in the works for a little while now), I’m stepping down as Documentation Co-lead. Awwww, sad, I know! It’s been quite the experience, and I feel like along with Jennifer and the other docs enthusiasts, we’ve gotten a lot done over the course of the last year and a bit of official leadership term. It’s been great helping set the direction of the documentation plans, and working with everyone who’s been interested in improving the documentation, as well as many of the core and contrib development teams

CES 2012: Intel keynote from Otellini brings Atom to smartphones

The (semi) liveblog of the Intel keynote, including announcements from Lenovo and Motorola about Intel-based smartphones – a threat to ARM? (Note: this was written as live, but posted subsequently.) Keynote time again: this time it’s Paul Otellini, president chief executive of Intel. The problem for him here is, can he persuade people that Intel does anything more than provide the processors to power the PC – which is a mature, slowing market in the west, and growing very much less quickly than the smartphone and tablet market in the rest of the world

Google TV: how soon will it be on your set?

Google chairman Eric Schmidt’s claim that half of TV sets in stores next year will have Google TV capability sounds impressive – but how quickly does that mean it will reach everybody? Eric Schmidt, previously Google’s chief executive and now chairman, forecast at the Le Web conference in Paris on Wednesday that “by the summer of 2012, the majority of the televisions you see in stores will have Google TV embedded on it”

Google’s Eric Schmidt sees Google TV embedded in most new TVs by summer of 2012

Google big dog Eric Schmidt covered a lot of ground in his onstage interview at Le Web this year, but it wasn’t all about iOS vs. Ice Cream Sandwich. It appears that Big G has big plans for Google TV , and the Executive Chairman foresees the platform proliferating to the point that “most” new televisions will have it embedded by the summer of 2012 — that rumored switch from x86 to ARM must be going well

Nokia must keep its foot on the pedal with Windows Phone launch

The Finnish firm has slid into the smartphone slow lane, but its Microsoft-backed relaunch could give it new momentum Nokia’s Stephen Elop loves a dramatic analogy. Having abandoned the “burning platform” of Symbian, Nokia’s once unbeatable phone operating software, he talks these days of having jumped aboard a “moving bus”
