Lather up your vocal cords, Europe, because it looks like Google Voice is on its way over. That’s according to the company’s European Director of Business Development, Jens Redmer, who told The Next Web yesterday that Google is taking “concrete action” to expand the service to the Old World.

A Century Old Bridge, Acrobats, Digital Cameras, and the Police

On Monday night I walked home instead of taking the train. But rather than the expected trot back, head filled with MP3s and little else, languorously drenched in sweat, I saw a woman dangling from the top of a bridge. More

VocaLive, iRig Mic, iPhone conspire to create vocal talent where none exists

When you think about it, an iPhone-based rig that lets anyone carry a decent vocal effects rig around in their pocket sounds like a recipe for disaster. Just look at that gentleman in the promotional image above, for example: for all we know, he sounds like one of the week one American Idol rejects — but thanks to the miracles of modern technology and around $80 in spending cash, he fancies himself the next Clay Aiken.

Solowheel self-balancing unicycle is as easy to ride as it is to afford (video)

If a company makes as bold a statement as “we reinvented the wheel” when introducing a gadget you know we’ve gotta check ‘em out and see what the hubbub’s about. Well, at the International Toy Fair in New York, Inventist has introduced its “Solowheel” product, which is essentially a self-balancing unicycle for personal mobility

PSP-playing boy falls onto train tracks, saved by a real life hero (video)

Not the best news for Sony execs to be waking up to this morning, as the company’s PSP has played a starring role in an unfortunate, though thankfully innocuous, incident. A 10-year old Milanese boy was recently so absorbed by his portable’s make.believe world that he forgot the real one around him had boundaries with bright lines painted around them. A moment later the young gamer found himself next to the train tracks a few feet below the platform designed for human occupation, though he wasn’t there long as an off-duty policeman by the name of Alessandro Micalizzi quickly leapt down and lifted him to safety

BMW’s NFC Key is your ticket to ride, and you should care (video)

Near Field Communication ( NFC ) is shaping up to be one of the hottest tech trends for 2011 now that payment systems and new handsets (driven by the Gingerbread build of Android and presumably, a near-term iOS release ) are making their way into the US and Europe. Add BMW to the growing list of supporters with its NFC key of the future. Bimmer researchers envision linking the key to the car’s navigation and entertainment system allowing you to make hotel reservations or purchase train tickets, for example.
