How would you change the HTC Titan?

We fell in love with the 4.7-inch HTC Titan’s brilliant build quality, battery life and camera — less so for the bad pixel density, Mango’s flakiness and only having 12GB free memory once the OS had made its land grab.

Like ponies to little girls, we always have a soft spot for mods here at Engadget. Who could forget Angel OD’s liquid-cooled Wii , for example? Or Peter Brands’ Frankendesk of a PC, the L3p D3sk

Brain-Eating Amoeba In Tap Water Kills Two In Lousiana

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has issued a weird warning: if you have to irrigate your sinuses with water for some medical reason, don’t use tap water. The reason: your brains may get eaten by the Naegleria fowleri.

XBOX 360 Aquarium

Remember the geeky computer aquariums we featured about 5 years ago? Instead of using a computer case this XBOX 360 Aquarium uses a gaming console case. Thankfully the donor XBOX was a not working, if you think the window cut looks great that is because it was cut out using a waterjet.

AT&T, Sprint and C Spire halt suits over T-Mobile acquisition, wireless competition to die another day

It’s never nice to beat a dead horse when it’s down and the same seems to be true for the litigious mudslinging Ma Bell’s had to endure. Now that the nation’s second largest carrier has been granted a stay in its pending and publicly messy T-Mobile acquisition, vocal opponents like Sprint and C Spire are withdrawing their respective suits (and fangs) to block the merger for the time being

Man on vacation confused for a Russian spy, almost restarts cold war

Threats of Russian espionage can come from the unlikeliest of sources , as Jim Mimlitz, owner of Navionics Research, a small integrator firm, knows only too well. Curran Gardner Public Water District, just outside of Springfield, Illinois, employed Mimlitz’s firm to set up its Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA), and the spy games began when Mimlitz went on vacation in Russia. While there, he logged into the SCADA system to check some data, then logged off and went back to enjoying Red Square and the finest vodka mother Russia has to offer

Espresso Machine Microcontroller Temperature Regulation

Cameron Charles from The Adventures of Cameron Charles has a Saeco Aroma espresso machine and wanted a bit more control. Of course this means a custom PCB with an onboard microcontroller. Have a look his Espresso Machine Microcontroller Temperature Regulation project where he shows how he takes over control of exactly how the espresso is being made.

Feds deny hacking caused Illinois water pump failure

Did a hacker or group of hackers, possibly in Russia, manage to physically destroy a water pump in Springfield, Illinois? That was the word last week, when reports spread that hackers had managed to take control of the water plant’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (or SCADA), which gave them the ability to repeatedly turn the pump on and off and eventually burn it out. Now, however, both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security say that their investigations have found no evidence of hacking or malicious activity, and that earlier reports were based on “raw, unconfirmed data.” As you might expect, that explanation isn’t quite being accepted by everyone, including Joe Weiss, the security researcher who first reported the incident

Bricks made from sewage – Yorkshire’s latest gift to the world

Incinerated waste and oil can provide you with a carbon-negative home Who can resist an email headed ‘From bowel to trowel’? Not me. As a result, I now know and can pass on, news of the latest product from my home city Leeds, whose ability to turn a penny from anything has long overtaken that of Birmingham, the rival workshop of the world.
